The artist states:
“I think that our distance from nature is already a cliché. City dwellers often have no relationship with animals or greenery. As a public artist I feel a sense of duty to draw attention to deficiencies in our everyday life. As a cultivator of eco-urban sensitivity, I usually go back to the sites to visit my “plants” or “moss”, sometimes to repair them a bit, but nothing more generally as they tend to get enough water from the air, condensation, and rain - especially in certain seasons. I also like to let them live by themselves. From the moment I put them on the street they start to have their own life. For me, the reaction of life on the street is also very important. I am curious about how people receive them, if they just leave them alone, or if they want to, take care of them or dismantle them. This is what makes my work similar to graffiti, although I am searching for a deeper social meaning and a dialogue with memories of the animals and gardens of my past in a small town in Central Europe. I believe that if everyone had a garden of their own to cultivate, we would have a much more balanced relation to our territories. Of course, a garden can be many things.”

Yes, how wonderfully, totally wrong is this, huh? I guess the ‘about’ says it all (in a tongue in cheek way)…
“Founded by a female US Army veteran known only as “Glambo,” GlamGuns.com was put together to mock stereotypes of women and girls and what they really like. Photoshopping of weapons and other “products” was done by Twitch who shares the madness. “Glambo” mascot provided by the brilliant artist behind Platinum Grit.
You can be glamorous and strong wearing camo and combat boots as well as you can wearing pink frills. Just remember the most important thing: the AK-47 NEVER goes with plaid. ”

I’ll be the first to admit that the whole single speed bike thing escapes me. 1×9, ok but I lasted one lap of the park before I decided one gear is just not for me.
Yet, Alta bikes out of Norway could almost change that. A nice site, a simply glorious singlespeed bike and an advertising approach that I have to say is the strangest, funniest, yet most to the point I have seen anywhere. Check it out for yourself. The whole package is almost enough to make me plonk the money down…

Who: Feit ( pronounced: ‘Fight’ ) Shoes
What: An Australian designed/owned ‘premium’ sneaker brand.
Why: Because hand picked materials in shoes made to exacting specifications is nice in this day of bland Athlete’s Foot and Footlocker selections.
Where: We found the Feit shop tucked away in a cool and minimal sub basement shop in East Sydney (cnr. Burton and Riley Sts).
G’s Opinion: I am not really into the whole designer sneaker thang, at the same time though I like shoes that I can wear to a business meeting as much as I can hanging out (OK I am not a patent leather business shoe guy - woohoo!). After I stumbled on the Feit store I was really surprised to find a range of shoes that covered my pretty basic (yet difficult) needs in a single pair of shoes. From full leather to leather/canvas mixes, high top and low top, Feit shoes are neat, clean and very well made.
I bought a pair of leather/canvas low cuts that I have been wearing almost constantly for months now. The clean cut has been a god send when it comes to getting dressed, as they seem to go with everything, casual and not so. The build quality is top notch (read the stitching is showing no signs of unraveling) and the materials show that they have been selected carefully, as they are showing only small signs of wear (once I clean them!). The Vibram sole is a bonus and keeps my feet comfy all day.
For the $220 I paid for them, a very reasonable price considering they are a relatively low volume premium label, is a more than good price, especially after I walked into Footlocker recently to be confronted with cookie cutter shoes with much higher price tags and a whole lot less leather or quality.
Go find a pair and make yourself feel good

Subsets. That is the best way to define modern culture. One can exist in their little world and really never be confronted by, nor experience another subset. To some this keeps them happy, too much stimulation is a bad thing as it challenges their fragile view of the world. To others though, life is not quite right and something goes amiss if they are not dished up something that nudges them this way or that on their path through life. Read the rest of this entry »

I grew up in an artistic household. Design and art were pretty much a part of everyday life and I can remember spending hours drawing or looking through art books of all sorts. I though also remember the difficulty of making any sort of living out of art and that is what probably led me to pursue a more rational career in product design; how much more money there is to be made doing that though can at times be debatable.
