Hippy ethics gone wrong?
June 27th, 2006We read this on a UK based clothing company’s website:
“Own Less
If you don’t own the latest thing, it won’t go out of date.
If you don’t own much, you won’t have much to lose.
If you own next to nothing, you won’t worry about ending up with nothing.
If you own less than you want, you will still have more than you need.
If you spend less money on things, you can spend more time on you.
If you own less, you will value it more.
If you own only what you can carry, you will carry less baggage around with you.
Travel light”
Oh for fuck’s sake, what does THAT mean? How can a company whose whole existence is based on selling stuff to people, the more the merrier each year we might add, come up with such a pile of shite, or worse still stick this on their website?
Have we might have missed something here but isn’t this a complete pile of hypocritical horse crap? How can anyone expect to run a business based on the principle of selling stuff to consumers every hour, every day, every week, and every month of every year turn around and tell their customers to buy less?
If a company does not want you to buy, it should close shop and stop inflicting this sort of drivel on us all.
