Sydney’s Sculpture By The Sea
November 10th, 2007
For two weeks each year at this time, Sydney hosts ‘Sculpture By The Sea’, an expose for many artists stretching several kilometers along the coast. A bigger than ‘Ben Hur’ showcase for many artists, the most interesting aspect is that it is an excellent undertaking in ‘experience’, as walking the path from Bronte to Bondi becomes an exercise in surprise and ability to get up close and personal with things that are usually behind rope in galleries. While an exhibition like this could be somewhat dry and predictable, walking the path reveals something new at each bend or staircase and most interestingly, some of the pieces are seen from one direction but not the other.
If you could not make it, here is what we thought was interesting along the way (be warned, there are a lot of images to follow)…
Hands in this series appeared several times along the way, usually attached to the fitness equipment.
This seemed to be an interloper installation…
Not sure if this last one was actually part of the exhibition, or a permanent installation. Regardless, how many talking shower roses do you see everyday? Evidently this guy thought it was as interesting as we did…
