NewWebPick

February 16th, 2008

NWPF

If you have not heard of it, NewWebPick.com is a website that has been running out of Hong Kong for some years now.

Originally it started as a site that used to highlight cool websites from around the globe each week. In the past year or so, they branched out to produce a series of downloadable Flash based magazines about graphics, arts and other creative areas, from professional to part timer. Thy sell this for a putsy USD$1.99 an issue. Value plus considering the content and each ish is around 2-300 pages!

Latley they have branched the concept out more to showcase artists and designers from various countries, and have just started a series that does the same for universities.

Check it out if you have not already, it’s well worth it.

When redesign is pointless

February 15th, 2008

Today we were looking over some prototypes that we have been privy to the development of over the last year or so. In the course of the discussions, it came up that an iconic piece of design in the coffee world has been redesigned. It was while looking at the ‘new’ design that we kept asking the question: “Was that worth the effort?”. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Stark moto

voxan 1

voxan2

Press from Philippe’s office:

“VOXAN the exclusive and unique French motorbike brand presents its new extreme vision of the café racer. With the “super naked Xv”, Voxan by Starck. Raw power enhanced by the radical purity of the minimalism. The absolute essence of the motorcycle. 1200 cm ³. 140 horsepower 180 kg. Order on internet. Available beginning last quarter 2007.”

The design co-lab jury is still out on this one. While Stark’s first bike for Aprillia was a milestone, we are not so sure about this, We think we’d prefer a ‘Confederate B-120 Wraith‘ if we were going to go uber exclusive, expensive, nutso.

Mindscape

February 15th, 2008

It’s what’s so great about Japan, they ‘just do it’ and seemingly have clients and a populace that then ‘just buys it’.

Seriously, Japan is such a huge source of inspiration and this is another example…

Mindscape, from what we can gather, does some really interesting urban landscaping projects, from products to spaces. Their site is well worth a look and shows projects that we think would have a hard time taking off in the West.

Everland

December 18th, 2007

Going to a hotel should be a magic experience but so few of them are…. that’s now the domain of the ‘resort’. Just what is the difference between a Hilton and a Hyat? all the rooms are pretty much the same.

Enter ‘Everland’ and if ever there was a cool idea this is it.
