For those that know it, Top Gear, the legendary UK based automotive ‘review’ (a term used loosely as it’s more a show about me driving fast exotic cars and being silly), is a weekly dose of automotive related TV genius. Jeremy Clarkson (love him or hate him), Richard Hammond and James May deliver an automotive based show in what can only be described as an odd mix of highly amusing, very polished and, usually, pretty informative. Of course, it would not be Top Gear if it were not for ‘The Stig’, the white helmeted, white race suite, test driver that hammers cars in a skillful and athletic fashion around the ‘Top Gear test track’.
Now it seems, PS3 players of Gran Tourismo will be able to throw the car of their choice around the ‘Top Gear test track’….
“Top Gear has hooked up with Sony to make our iconic test track part of Gran Turismo 5. And as an office with the permanent distraction of a Playstation 2, race seat, force-feedback wheel and a copy of the current GT4, it’s the best news we’ve had since Alonso missed out on the F1 championship.”
So, you think you are as fast as The Stig? Time to find out.
Welcome to the increasing world of blending mediums.

As someone working in the creative fields, I know how hard it is to avoid doing something you saw somewhere before subliminally. Still, there are those out there that are just outright about it….

No, not the dopey movie*, the real thing! After god knows how long, MTV ‘Liquid Television’s’ Aeon Flux series has been released on DVD, the whole lot I am chuffed to say and apparently as a ‘director’s cut’, whatever that means. Shit movies sometimes have an upside and that, in this case, is the airing to DVD of what I always regarded to be one of the best animated series. Read the rest of this entry »

Just watched this, again, on DVD…
Some might not like this film, they need to lighten up, but I think it one of the great SF films of all time. The classic Luc Besson film, with over the top costume designs of Jean Paul Gultire as well as set desings from Jean Giraud (of renowned French graphic novel ‘Moebius’ fame), is unashamedly Euro-centric and that’s part of its draw.
To put it simply, The Fifth Element is not only very funny and a visual feast (that pokes fun of greats such as Aliens but also has endless hidden detail) but the script is spot on and when combined with the great editing, make it a film of timing and segways that are seamless and very funny.
If you have not seen it and you like SciFi, or even if you don’t, see it.
The DVD sits in my very selective collection…

Do you remember the time you saw your first video game? For us it was at a shopping center and we must have been around 8 or nine. On the way out we passed a brand spanking new Space Invaders machine. After a brief glance we were dragged away but it was too late, even without playing it we were hooked.
