When TV meets gamers….

October 25th, 2007

For those that know it, Top Gear, the legendary UK based automotive ‘review’ (a term used loosely as it’s more a show about me driving fast exotic cars and being silly), is a weekly dose of automotive related TV genius. Jeremy Clarkson (love him or hate him), Richard Hammond and James May deliver an automotive based show in what can only be described as an odd mix of highly amusing, very polished and, usually, pretty informative. Of course, it would not be Top Gear if it were not for ‘The Stig’, the white helmeted, white race suite, test driver that hammers cars in a skillful and athletic fashion around the ‘Top Gear test track’.

Now it seems, PS3 players of Gran Tourismo will be able to throw the car of their choice around the ‘Top Gear test track’….

“Top Gear has hooked up with Sony to make our iconic test track part of Gran Turismo 5. And as an office with the permanent distraction of a Playstation 2, race seat, force-feedback wheel and a copy of the current GT4, it’s the best news we’ve had since Alonso missed out on the F1 championship.”

So, you think you are as fast as The Stig? Time to find out.

Welcome to the increasing world of blending mediums.

GlamGuns!

October 24th, 2007

Yes, how wonderfully, totally wrong is this, huh? I guess the ‘about’ says it all (in a tongue in cheek way)…

“Founded by a female US Army veteran known only as “Glambo,” GlamGuns.com was put together to mock stereotypes of women and girls and what they really like. Photoshopping of weapons and other “products” was done by Twitch who shares the madness. “Glambo” mascot provided by the brilliant artist behind Platinum Grit.

You can be glamorous and strong wearing camo and combat boots as well as you can wearing pink frills. Just remember the most important thing: the AK-47 NEVER goes with plaid. ”

The Military Aesthetic

October 24th, 2007

The largest industry in the world is the military; it seems that we humans are very good at spending large amounts of money and energy finding new ways to kill one another. What’s more, some of mankind’s greatest achievements come directly off the back of military development and some might argue that if it were not for World War Two, we might not be where we are technologically today. A new phone! Sony Ericsson W880i

October 18th, 2007

For several years we have been using a Motorola as the phone while on the move (well that and a Nokia, but that was not replaced). Finally though, its junk interface and keys designed for people with less than normal hands, demanded replacing before I lost my mind totally. Read the rest of this entry »

Arrrrrr, pirates!

September 19th, 2007

Those who know me know that have little than less regard for the whole ‘made in China’ thing. Put simply. while I understand why Western companies go to the East to make stuff, I have little to no respect for the Chinese value system when it comes to business, IP and all that. Ya know, if you don’t have the ability to do it yourself, either go and learn or stop trying to do it.

Cases in point

One (from the Japan Times via Core77.com)

Two (onCore77.com)

While it might be amusing, it’s costing the West and more importantly impacting jobs all over the place.

Strange, yet cool…. Norwegian brand Alta

September 18th, 2007

I’ll be the first to admit that the whole single speed bike thing escapes me. 1×9, ok but I lasted one lap of the park before I decided one gear is just not for me.

Yet, Alta bikes out of Norway could almost change that. A nice site, a simply glorious singlespeed bike and an advertising approach that I have to say is the strangest, funniest, yet most to the point I have seen anywhere. Check it out for yourself. The whole package is almost enough to make me plonk the money down…
