Howard finally off his rocker?

Friday, September 7th, 2007

I think we’ve all known it for some time (hey I voted for the guy in the past), but it seems our illustrious PM is really off his rocker this time.

Did he really say “What’s good for China is good for the world?”. Really?

Good grief!

What a knob….

Sprung! Rip offs caught in the act

As someone working in the creative fields, I know how hard it is to avoid doing something you saw somewhere before subliminally. Still, there are those out there that are just outright about it….

Word!

Worth IS in the detail

We just got back a sample of some jeans today. Lordy they are fine and we are not saying that just because we designed them, or are offering them for sale in the near future either. They are really, really nice; should be, they take close to four hours to make! (more…)

Hippy ethics gone wrong?

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

We read this on a UK based clothing company’s website:

“Own Less

If you don’t own the latest thing, it won’t go out of date.
If you don’t own much, you won’t have much to lose.
If you own next to nothing, you won’t worry about ending up with nothing.
If you own less than you want, you will still have more than you need.
If you spend less money on things, you can spend more time on you.
If you own less, you will value it more.
If you own only what you can carry, you will carry less baggage around with you.

Travel light”

Oh for fuck’s sake, what does THAT mean? How can a company whose whole existence is based on selling stuff to people, the more the merrier each year we might add, come up with such a pile of shite, or worse still stick this on their website?

Have we might have missed something here but isn’t this a complete pile of hypocritical horse crap? How can anyone expect to run a business based on the principle of selling stuff to consumers every hour, every day, every week, and every month of every year turn around and tell their customers to buy less?

If a company does not want you to buy, it should close shop and stop inflicting this sort of drivel on us all.

Made In China…eh?

Reading through the Saturday paper and found a review of a doco about Nokia’s manufacturing operations in China, ‘Nokia: A Decent Factory’. (Review by Ian Cuthbertson).”And then it’s into the meat and potatoes of the doco, as we see, first hand, the depressing conditions the mostly female staff work under. They work factory lines so deafening that the audio on the tape becomes inaudible. They work six days a week. They work compulsory overtime. When not at work, they must live and sleep huddled eight to a room. (more…)

Water, water, everywhere…not.

It has come as no surprise that Australia has hit a water major crisis. It only goes to figure that the driest continent on the planet could not sustain the insane ways in which modern Australians use water and finally but probably too late, lots of noise is being made about it. I find it funny though that we are making noise about this now, when for decades modern (and not so modern) Australia has spent most of its time being conscious about long term sustainability about as much as a coma patient spends thinking about what to say next.
