Take Notes In Class
Taking notes in class doesn’t necessarily mean you write everything your professor says. Most students do this because they’re afraid they’ll miss important things. The key to taking notes is to ensure that you only write the important things. If you want to be effective in taking notes, make sure you read the topic you are going to cover before the lesson.
As you read, take the notes this will enable you to familiarize yourself with the topic being discussed and as the lesson continues, you will only add a few things to your notes. Your notes should be organized topic by topic, use arrows, capital letters and underline the important information. Organize your notes in the order in which the lecturer presented, including the titles and dates.
Reading History Books
History books are complex with the majority of historical events captured. It doesn’t mean you have to read the entire book, the secret is to extract the most significant information. You can start by reading the title of the book, it tells the most about the central argument of the book. The chapters of a book are usually organized in chronological order of events. By reading the chapter you will know what the topic is all about.
The introduction and conclusion are the most important parts of a chapter. The author provides a summary of the research and how the conclusions were reached. The main point is to first develop an understanding of the bigger picture before going into details. Take time to read and examine the information to get a clear understanding and develop your opinion. Taking notes will be good for your next exam or essay.
Create Flashcards
Flashcards are visual cues that will help you remember important information in history. It also tests your mind’s ability to retain information.
To create a flashcard, on one side write key events, facts, or dates, and on the other side write the explanation, definition, or description. If you want you can use colors to make it more appealing. You can use a binder or a rubber band to hold the flashcards together.
