You can buy elastomers at http://www.suspensionforkparts.net/. I haven't tried them, but I am about to order some bits for an 854 I have just acquired and will be building back up to '94 spec.

I've heard their elastomers aren't pretty reasonable though.

I assume if it has hydraulic brakes, you have some Magura Rim brakes? I know some people that still use them and love them.

I have the 855. Is there an updates alternative that replaces the front elastomer ? Or do I have to replace the Gervin fork? It's been years since I rode the bike but I feel nostalgic so want to return it to the trails. Has hydraulic brakes, do you for see any problem with them? Thanks Russ

Here's a demented thought? If you are running a 1 x 9, perhaps the rule ought to be that the front ring matches your age! Thus at age 40 you can spin yourself silly with a 40 toother and by the time you reach 60 it's become a monster ring stompathon...

For me,now, I would be transitioning from the 44 top a 45 (I actually run my single speed roadie at 46 x18 - so I am a year ahead of myself)

As for the polar - sell the bastard and get a garmin - heaps more fun to play with.

A good replacement rear shock for the 955 is Risse Racing, which makes 4 custom built shocks for this ride and many other bikes. My elastomers went hard a while back and I thought that was the end for my great ride...not so! I've been using the Astro 5 for about 5 years and barely think about it vs. periodic boiling/nuking/heating of the elastomer with poor results. Don't even bother with elastomers!!!

Funny you should mention that particular drop. A friend bought one around a week or so back raving about it.

Always been a fan of Monteiths, but the black would be at the top of my picks from them.

Mr Dog, check out the Monkeiths black from NZ. Very nice, reminds me of the Hunter Old you used to get, (can you still get that?) They make a pilsener that's not bad either.

Hey Greg,

To be honest, we were in dialogue (phone and email) with the promoter (to remain unnamed) as soon as the application was lodged to hold the event. With the initial plan to contribute to trail works, we had no objections, just some trail suggestions based on local knowledge. In the end Hunter Water denied access to one part, a shame because we were hoping it may fast track some new trail that is on the cards.

As soon as NPWS notified us of the "donation" being removed, dialogue began again, unfortunately this was a week or so out from the event.

Places like the chute, which as you note wasn't ready to be raced, was started prior to the event being applied for. We knew it wouldn't be completed in time, and in conjunction the NPWS also working on it decided to delay completion. There is a bit of reowork in there on the lower line, the chute itself we haven't started.

Following the event, it seems the heat did save us as some parts were not used, that said the number of alternate lines that was created in the technical sections has caused a bit of an issue. Once these lines open, closing them can be problematic and time consuming.

Talking to the NPWS there will be events in the future, oddly enough they seem keen on it, but they also want to make sure it makes trail building funded. The GTA aren't against events in Glenrock, it really does showcase a great area, but we are against people taking advantage of the hard work of volunteers.
