: Coming soon: Urban Tiki

urban tiki print

This has been a long time coming.

We tried to do it before but to be honest, it never really took off with us, it just wasn’t hitting the note… call it a lack of focus.

Well, it’s time to give it another crack, with some focus this time.

We are about to launch (re-launch?) ‘Urban Tiki’ our little gallery of bike and Lab-Gear culture inspired artwork that will be available as nice and affordable prints – if you like anything enough to want to hang it on your wall of course.

It’ll be quirky and a bit eclectic but a lot of fun to do, and maybe, just maybe there’ll be something, someone out there might just like!

: But I don’t want to do it that way…

Over the weekend, and the past week actually, I have been back doing the fun part of making stuff – designing. Since we rekindled Lab-Gear back in late ’07, I have been working on and off with designing some carry goods (bags etc.) to add to the line.

Of course with the ever increasing dearth of such product on the market, there has to be a point of difference, otherwise there is little point; why just do what everyone else is doing, right? The point of difference I had decided originally was going to revolve around materials and price. Materials, I aimed to use only leather for all the reasons that leather is great. Price, well, leather is a premium material and as such attracts a premium price. Rightly so too but I wanted to do leather AND be cost effective/competitive with Cordura based products.

Now that is a challenge.

: 4 images: Designing stuff

It’s been a good week for getting back onto the design + prototype wagon. Here I’m prototyping the new (and well overdue) full leather ride pouch. After making it up, a few things are changing as more interesting ways to achieve the same thing but with added function cropped up. Once this process down 100%, it’ll be onto more bags and the like, which I have been wanting to do properly for too long now.

Also got the tubing sorted for one of the new frames in the works.
