I remember first seeing Alien in year 4. Somehow a friend and I got into the theatre and suffice to say, by the time the Alien burst out of Kane’s chest we were running out the door.
A few years later I did watch it in all its glory, Alien was, and remains, a masterpiece of Sci-Fi which left many questions.
Well, Ridley Scott’s back and has answered the questions with Prometheus. From the trailer, this looks like it will be every bit as good as the first with the same dark, atmosphere…

“Quite a few emails nominated all of us (as Australian Whinger of the Year). The Australian people, that is. ”I suffered some pretty nasty reverse-culture shock,” wrote a man newly returned home after three years as an aid worker in Laos. ”I couldn’t believe how bad things had become here: the rampant sense of middle-class entitlement, aggressive self-interest, the constant braying over a thousand petty grievances. There is no sense of proportion on how lucky we actually are.” Good point.

Just in time for Christmas. I think I’m going to have to make this just to see how good I know it will be.

Was a hateful ride this morning. The HRM going on strike should have been a fair warning, as should have been the commuters trolling their way to work at 6am! Of course several felt the need to stick to my wheel after I rolled by them on the down, so what does one do when feeling totally flat? Yea, stomp it on the climbs. Super dumb move as it sapped whatever ‘enthusiasm’ was left up until that point. Still, they weren’t so heroic after that and I had to giggle when the one guy who was clinging to my wheel on the steep foot bridge locked it up coming out of it. All go, no control?
Anyhoo, the only option at this juncture in a ride of woe is to decide that you’re going to ‘sniff the flowers’, as there little point trying to make a decent ride out of it. I should do it more often as you get to see some pretty cool things cruising through a quiet city.

77 1/2 was one such thing. Located on the main drag down at ‘‘The Rocks’ it’s a little bespoke shop making bespoke men’s wear. If I had to done proper work attire to go to work, I’d be checking it out for sure. As it is, I hardly wear the nice bits and bobs I pick up.
It’s nice to see people still doing this sort of thing, there’s a guy over in East Sydney hand making shoes and selling them around the world… can’t be sure (I read about him in the paper) but I think this is him. I’d even have a guess and say that bespoke is on the increase, as the typical retail channels increasingly become a bigger pain in the arse to try an negotiate, wanting more for less, and online offers a market reach that is beyond the imagination of those trying to do bespoke 15 years ago.
And now for the obligatory bike shot… not that I usually take pictures of my bike…

The ‘most useless machine ever’…
