Why, Why, Why do I do it.

Not once in building a bike from scratch with the hope of building from bits I already have has it come together. Why then do I think that building a new bike will be a smooth, happy and calming process this time?

It should be a fun happy bonding process with the new bike, but it never happens.

I’ve just started building my new play bike, a Mountaincycle Battery. The bike is meant to be a fun bike to play in the jumps and some mellow DH trails. But so far fun has been dominated by my incompetence and frustration.

Headset work…….nope.

Bottom bracket works, well sort of, if I don’t want to run my chain device.

Damn it, I even punctured my tube putting the tyre on.

Time to call on the spare parts of friends, the rubber mallet and some creative uses for washers. Failing that I’m hanging it on the wall as art.

Bikes come complete for a reason, the question is, when will I learn?
