blogtube : NSW National Parks Discussion Paper

By: schacksta | No Comments » |

In response to the growth of the sport and recognition of the fact that the sport has not been managed within the NSW NPWS  system, the NPWS have released a discussion paper on Mountainbiking.

To quote the NPWS, “The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is considering a new approach to the management of mountain biking that includes providing mountain biking tracks in a small number of our national parks where the location is suitable, there is strong demand for the activity, and environmental impacts can be managed.

To view the discussion paper go to this link.

This is a massive opportunity for riders to have their say and influence the future direction the NPWS take with respect to off road cycling in the state of NSW. If you ride a mountainbike you really should take the time to read the discussion paper and let your thoughts be known. It won’t take long and may open up a world of opportunity.

Submissions can also be emailed to mountain.biking@environment.nsw.gov.au or mailed to Cycling Policy and Mountain Biking Strategy, Department of Environment and Climate Change, PO Box 1967, Hurstville NSW 1481

Keep your submissions to the point and make it constructive. Most importantly avoid emotional arguments and any negativity about opposing views.

Scientific evidence is available that indicates MTB is ecologically sustainable on well built and maintained trails on Australia soils. Therefore MTB is compatible with conservation strategies and has a place in the National Parks system.

Keep an eye on the IMBA Aus website for a generic submission, however it is better if you take the time to custom write your own individual response. Check back here over the coming days for a summary of the positives and negatives of the paper.
