Sitting outside last night watching homemade fireworks go off down the street while consuming a cocktale of tasty beverages and bad food I started to do the New Years thing and contemplate 2010 and what life on the bike this year will be like.

This obviously started with reflecting on the year that had been. Additions to the family for me made 2009 a pretty lean year on the bike, not that I would ever swap the family for anything (OK most of the time I wouldn’t) and not that it was a bad year, far from it. Quantity was way down as far as riding went but quality was definitely on the up. Surely that had to be a good thing, or did my rides just seem better because I was getting less?

Hmmmm, need to think about that more. Surely the abscence of good beer doesn’t make a lone bad beer more attractive, or does it.

Off the bike, the Awaba trails started taking some real shape, some huge wins were made in the fight for glenrock, the VVC races went smooth enough and somehow despite an active brewery in my garage I can still squeeze into my favorite knicks and jersey. 2009 wasn’t bad at all  from a bike perspective, I just didn’t seem to get out and actually ride it too much.

But that was last year and this is this year, the New Year, time to make plans and commitments to myself that I’ll never bother getting around to  meeting.

Thats right, this year I will be fit, ride regular epics, no just regulalry ride. Might even get some bike skills to go with my stunning good looks. Yep, this year I will be living the mtb dream for once.

Then as I had this revelation, just to ram home some reality TISM’s “Bone Idol” came on the stereo and some immortal words from the great ones really set me straight on the path for 2010, looks like it will be much of the same.
